Gregory Porter Heals Himself With Songs In 'All Rise' Out Now

Jazz and Soul artist Gregory Porter has recently released his sixth studio album, All Rise in a variety of formats through Blue Note. For audiophiles, of particular note is the Triple disc 180gram vinyl, mastered from 94kHz/24 Bit digital files at half speed by Peter Beckmann at Technology Works Mastering in London, UK. But we also have the rest of the physical formats here at Tower.

The album reputedly shows a return to Porter’s earlier songwriting styles with lyrics that tie in to the everyday details and ideas of life. It also features a style that mixes Jazz, Soul, Blues and Gospel and was produced by Troy Miller (Laura Mvula, Jamie Cullum, Emili Sande).

After 2017’s Nat King Cole & Me, Porter decided that he’d bring in an orchestra for his next LP, and also came firmly to the conclusion that music has healing power, so for that reason, All Rise takes a very positive tone regarding love and the honesty of protest.

Porter speaks about his motivations and the appeal of his music: "I was soothed by my voice as a child and I think that's the same thing others get from it. I'm trying to heal myself with these songs."

A video for "Concorde" has been released off the new album:

In 2019 Porter also launched and hosted his own podcast, ‘The Hang’, featuring such distinguished guests as Annie Lennox and Jeff Goldblum. You might just want to check that out.
