Charles Tapp Musical Bio Starting with drum lessons in the first grade to join the family band... In 1977 co-founded the group Christmas in Seattle with Jeff Pilson (Dokken, Dio, Rock Star) and Mark Robertson (Cairo, Tony McCalpine). The group played concerts at the Seattle Center, Seattle Concert Theater, did a live radio broadcast on KZOK FM, and performed two benefit concerts for the Children's Orthopedic Hospital. The band lasted for three years in the Seattle area. Bruce Hazen joined the band for the middle year when Jeff Pilson went to San Francisco to be in Marty Balin's 'Rock Justice' rock opera. Hazen, Robertson and Tapp also played in the Seattle band 'Child' at the time. Tapp studied voice, theory, and keyboards for four years with Maestro David Kyle (Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Vic Damone) in Seattle through 1981. In 1980, Tapp joined Randy Hansen and, along with Scott Rosberg, recorded 'The Randy Hansen Album' on Capitol Records. That group did two North American tours which included several coliseum shows with Bob Seger, Sammy Hagar, REO Speedwagon, Head East, and Blue Oyster Cult. A video from that album features BAM magazine editor-in-chief Dennis Erokan in a starring role. In the early 80's, Charles, with wife Cindy and daughter Sarah, moved to Northern California to play in Cinema with Jeff Pilson, Mark Robertson and Mike Varney. That band also backed up Rocky Sullivan on one of his albums. A year later in 1982, Charles Tapp joined Timmy who, with Andy West (Dixie Dregs), recorded an EP in 1984 with producer Eddie Offord (Yes, ELP). Timmy opened for The Dixie Dregs several times and recorded many original songs. The Atlanta recording was eventually released in 1999. In 1987 CharlesTapp formed his own band singing lead from behind the drums with Rob Neumann on guitar and Chuck Steaks (Quicksilver Messenger Service, Todd Rundgren) on keyboards and keybass. Along with recording original material, the group also played clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area and completed a video of Wipeout with original Wipeout producer and laugher Dale Smallin that was featured at mtv.com. In 1997, Charles Tapp released his first solo CD 'Tapp'. It was the debut release for the independent 'Rudolf Music' who have since released Timmy - 'The Atlanta Project' in 1999 and Randy Hansen 'Thinking Of You' with Tapp on drums, released in 2000. The 2002 presentations were Christmas - 'Live In Seattle' and Charles Tapp - '2'. A new original Christmas song 'Christmas Time' was recorded and released in 2003 for a free MP3 download. In 2004 Tapp released on Rudolf Music a Bye Bye Bush parody song that is available at CD Baby and Apple iTunes along with a 3 Song Christmas Sampler CD with Alec Fuhrman and Steve Evans. A full 10 Song Christmas CD is planned for release in November 2005.
