Ragtime, the uniquely American syncopated musical style, captures the energy and romanticism of life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From the mid-1890s to the mid-1910s, thousands of performers, composers, and the public-at-large embraced ragtime. Orchestras, concert bands, and pianists all performed the musical sensations of the day alongside works by classical composers, producing a melting pot of musical creativity. On this, the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra's third recording, the ensemble explores some of America's most celebrated ragtime-era works, along with forgotten and rediscovered favorites, performed as audiences would have heard them over a century ago. The CD includes a 24-page illustrated booklet with extensive commentary by PRSO director Andrew Greene. Features special guest appearances by vocalist William Edwards and pianist Max Keenlyside. 71 minutes.
