One of Dubconscious' most sacred mantras is: 'Be the change you wish to see in the world.' We deeply believe in those important words, and do our best to represent our ideals as we tour. We aim to live and tour sustainably by using bio-diesel fuel, recycling, selling organic merchandise and educating our fans about critical issues. Constant travel requires an incredible amount of fuel. The world collectively burns more than 81 million barrels of oil every 24 hours. We choose to neutralize our environmental footprint by buying farm-grown, organic biodiesel. Biodiesel is a good, clean fuel source that any diesel engine can run on. Our tour bus purrs happily from B-20% to B-100%. While finding alternative fueling stations on the road can be a challenge, it's easily overcome by proper tour planning. We scout for fueling locations using Biodiesel and Nearbio For our personal travel, we blend a bit of ethanol E-85, because it's safe for most new cars. You can learn more at E85Fuel. Our hope is that, as the renewable fuel industry progresses, everyone else will eventually change to more sustainable energy sources. On tour, we separate and recycle everything we can. We keep a separate recycling bin on our bus and ensure it gets delivered to the proper location. Beyond that, we're also concerned about the volume of glass that gets thrown away at events across the country every night. As a solution, we're developing a plan to proactively collect thousands of glass bottles at venues, then transport and recycle them. We want to teach festivals and venues how easy it is to 'close the loop' and become sustainable. Expect to see us in action at all our shows by mid-summer. Aside from recycling, we also champion sustainable consumption. We believe that individuals must vote with their dollar and speak their beliefs. Distributors must also make the change, so we are committed to only offering band merchandise that exemplifies our message. All our shirts and hats are made of organic hemp or cotton from Spiritex, a natural clothing company in Asheville, NC. Our CD cases are printed on recycled paper, as are much of our promotional materials. We're now touring with a video projector and screen, which we're using for several purposes. We work with a coalition of video artists to create inspirational media to parallel our set-lists each night. We'll be premiering and evolving this work as we tour, so watch for it at shows and festivals this summer. We're also screening documentary films at select venues on tour. We believe that it's important to educate as well as entertain our fans about the critical issues of our time. Becoming sustainable is a process that every band and industry should consider. It's paramount to our survival, so inform yourself--the rewards are incredible. It simply takes forethought, and a proactive commitment in each area of your work and lifestyle. First, assess what changes you can make. Fuel is important, and so are local partnerships. Talk to non-profit organizations about solutions, engage in conversations everywhere, write your action plan, then follow through with it. There's no shortage of role models, solutions and resources to live and tour sustainably. We feel it's important to connect people to local issues they care about and the proper resources so they can take action. We're spearheading a new initiative to make it easy for local organizations to engage fans at our events with information and solutions. Support anything you can verify as local, organic, fair-trade, shade-grown, low impact, and generally conscious. You are what you eat, hear and watch, so choose your media carefully. Embrace cultural diversity, especially in poetry, music, art and dance. Be kind to yourself and others. Love your community through thick and thin, and never forget your roots. They make up your existence and will forever be connected with you. Dubconscious is fueled by the passion, love and encouragement from our family of fans. The positive spirits, smiling faces and kind words of gratitude we find at each show are the seeds of inspiration that keep our tribe in motion. We're also deeply moved by the widespread suffering endured by people and the world today. We can't turn a blind eye to the health of our planet any longer. It's time for us all to be truthful about our individual impact and compassionate enough to make change. We have deep respect and gratitude for our friends everywhere working for humanitarian and environmental progress. They are the true heroes today.
