With the recording of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 1 and his Symphonic Dances, the Philadelphia Orchestra and it's principal conductor the Philadelphia Orchestra and it's principal conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin begin their cycle of symphonic works by the Russian composer Works by the Russian composer, which will be complete in the 150th anniversary year of 2023. The Philadelphia Orchestra has always had a special relationship with Rachmaninoff's music himself entrusted some of his compositions to the orchestra for premiere, and the Symphonic Dances presented here were given to the Dances presented here were even dedicated to the Philadelphia Orchestra and it's then principal conductor. Deliberately, the album combines the First Symphony with this, Rachmaninoff's last composition, which repeatedly echoes the musical material of the early work. With this new symphonic Cycle, the Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin follow up on the highly acclaimed recordings of the Piano-orchestra works with Daniil Trifonov, most recently the Grammy-nominated "Destination Rachmaninov - Arrival".
