Albino Mbie was born in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique - a country in southern Africa known for it's rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that Mozambicans are known for, Albino built his first guitar at the age of fourteen from a 5-liter can of oil, scraps of wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.? Drawn to the sounds and rhythms of Maputo's neighborhood street musicians, and only with his homemade guitar, Albino learned to combine different styles and incorporate the diverse elements of home into his music. Soon he began to play in a number of local bands. As he improved, Albino realized that he needed to experience new places, cultures, and sounds for his talents to flourish.?? Mbie studied Music Education and Performance at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo, Mozambique - and in 2008 was accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. There he majored in Performance and Music Production & Engineering, and also earned a minor in Acoustics & Electronics. Albino was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship through the Berklee African Scholars Program.? Mozambican Dance is a celebration of Albino's heritage and an insight into exciting new musical horizons. These compositions showcase Albino's remarkable ability to combine the variety of his influences into an organic whole. The result is a new sound of African guitar: modern, diverse, yet true to the vibrancy of home. In Mozambican Dance, Albino has captured this international energy and created an album of music for all to enjoy and share.
