NEW STOCK ARRIVING SOON! Off the Beat 'n' Path is a labor of love for me for sure.There is music on this CD that is intended to please the Smooth Jazz format, but at the same time, I decided to step off the pathway and take some real chances. Some of the music may make the CD border on being considered all over the map, but in my mind and heart, it is all from one place...my heart. I have diverse musical tastes...I always did. I was a musical outcast in my all black neighborhood growing up because I listened to Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa, Led Zepplin, Kiss and more obscure groups like The Sensational Alex Harvery Band (what? you never heard of them??!) along with Al Green, The Jackson Five, Sly & The Family Stone, Motown, Stevie Wonder, Grover Washington, Herbie Hancock and other foreign acts in my neighborhood like Gilbert O'Sullivan & Johnny Mathis. See, to me, the more obscure and odd, the better. In fact, if a record I bought sounded anything remotely like anything I had heard from someone else, I ditched it. Threw it out! In the trash it went! To play a song in the style of another artist was a cardinal sin in my book! I craved the new, original and brave, not the hot flavor of the day and so with this record, I decided to incorporate some of this truth of the real André Berry. With that being said, you are going to hear some hard edges, some soft, pillowy beds, some strong opinions and some wild imagery. It is my hope, that you allow the barriers of "sameness & conformity" to melt away from your mind and allow the music to take you where it hopefully takes you... "Off the Beat 'n' Path!"
