October 8, 2017 marked the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Dresden State Opera Chorus. This new release from Profil, the tenth volume in the label's Semperoper Edition, celebrates their long and successful history, as it features the earliest recordings of the ensemble. The album includes opera choruses under the baton of general music director Karl Bohm. Other esteemed directors featured on the album include Kurt Striegler, Rudolf Neuhaus, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Colin Davis, and others. The release provides a broad overview of the ensemble's impressively large repertoire, with opera choruses by Wagner, Gounod, Strauss, Bizet, Dvorak, Beethoven, and more.
