Bernard Scavella, Tenor and Soprano saxophonist, equally skilled as a leader or as a sideman. He helped to define the sound and styling of the Chicago based jazz group, The GrooveMasters during the 1970's and 1980's, as the principal arranger and saxophonist. Scavella gained recognition during his teen years through study with Joe Henderson and performing with Clark Terry, George Coleman, Billy Cobham, Clint Houston and George Cables. Scavella, Cables and Cobham were the cofounders of the New York City based jazz group, The Jazz Samaritans, which was aptly named by Scavella. Scavella has appeared in a countless number of situations through the years, performing with The Freeman Brothers( Vonne and George), Johny Hartman, Freddie Cole and a host of notable others. He has recorded frequently as a sideman, however, he transitioned to the leader's role when he recorded ' Bout Time volumes I/II in 2008. Scavella plays Hard Bop/Post Bop/ jazz rock fusion/ straight ahead/cool and swings.
