This album was recorded in a funky little attic studio in the artsy neighborhood of Kitsilano on the west side of Vancouver, Canada. The tiny studio is where the magic happens at Derek Mason Music Production, which we nicknamed 'The Cave'. The producer Derek Mason brought amazing originality to the project, marrying a hard rock background to acoustic folk. An unusual match made in heaven. Willy Blizzard's front man is Canadian singer/songwriter John Hough. The album In From the Cold draws on classic themes of new world settlement: the landscape, the people, the history. It is the echo of a canoe, a loon, a fish boat, and laundry flapping in the wind. Their music carries the stamp of the land. Deeply rooted in Canadian folk music, John Hough is both a sensitive writer and a superb vocalist. He first came to the attention of wider audiences as lead vocalist/guitarist for the Vancouver based Celtic band Under the Moss and their album Raking the Coals. His solo album Train Through a Northern Town is a taste of Canada, from life on the Atlantic coast to western stories of outlaws, as well as forgotten places in between.
