Carla Seidl has been on many journeys since the 2009 release of Under My Skin. In Who Are My People?, she draws from her recent Peace Corps tours in Azerbaijan, Togo, and Benin, to bring listeners reflections from these places and stories from the experiences in between. With bluesy notes and rhythms from West Africa and Central Asia, plus her uniquely rich and textured vocals, Who Are My People? is a more outward-looking, upbeat companion to her introspective debut. Critical Acclaim for Seidl: "Carla Seidl is traveling back to a modern tradition that has been much neglected of late, that of reveling in the female voice...the CD is a feast of her sumptuous talent...." - Mark S. Tucker, Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange "a collection of well-crafted songs and a stunning vocal showcase" - J. Turner, Indie-Music.com "Carla Seidl has this wonderfully distinctive voice made up of honey, amber and wood timbres, almost achieving a dual tone in her sound that is warm and memorable." -Wildy's World "Folk music for the soul." -WESU 88.1, Middletown, CT More about Carla Seidl: BASICS Truth seeker, world traveler, and multidisciplinary artist with a velvety voice and a four-octave range inspires with soulful folk from the heart. SOUND Soulful, lyrical folk with a hint of jazz, Carla's music has been likened to that of Laura Nyro. INFLUENCES Joni Mitchell, Indigo Girls, Eva Cassidy BIO Originally from Long Island, New York, Carla Seidl has lived on five continents and has served in the Peace Corps in three different countries. She studied at Harvard, where she created her own major called Expression and Culture Studies, combining writing, folklore, anthropology, music, foreign language, and dance. Despite her early academic achievement, Carla has found greatest happiness off of the beaten path. She is always seeking to understand the world around her, and isn't satisfied with trivial answers. It is this relentless searching and questioning that has given her such meaningful experiences over the years: in addition to serving in the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan, Togo, and Benin, Carla has completed an Outward Bound wilderness course, taught on the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador, mountain biked down the world's most dangerous road in Bolivia, worked as a private cook, and done organic farming in Italy. Carla brings reflections and insights from her travels into her performances, sharing stories and unique perspectives so that audiences grow and learn as well as enjoy. Carla released her debut album, Under My Skin, in 2009. Since then, when not using music to empower youth in West Africa, she has performed at such venues as The Bitter End in New York City, Book Revue in Huntington, New York, Blue in Portland, Maine, and Gitar Café in Istanbul, Turkey. Carla is also an independent radio producer and writer who is currently pursuing an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Goddard College. Read and listen to more of her work at carlaseidl.com.
