It is evident that Carmen Soriano's multifaceted talents shine best interpreting Pilipino music. Her latest offering, "Malayo man, Malapit din" is a well-balanced collection of old favorites and present day standards. Included are the current sellers " Mahiwaga," "Di ba't ako ay tao ring may Damdamin," and "Malayo man Malapit din." Three of the cuts are the theme songs of successful movies: "Malayo man, Malapit din," written by Pablo Vergara for the film of the same title, " Halikan mo at Magpaalam sa Kahapon," an adaptation of the Marvin Hamlisch-Edward Kleban hit "What I did for Love" given a new touch via Levi Celerio's stirring lyrics, and "Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak." On the first two songs it was Carmen's voice that appeared on the soundtracks. On this album, executive producer, Mr. Allan Villar of A&W Records Int'l has seen fit to re-introduce five beautiful selections from the past, "Lambingan," "Tunay na Tunay," "Kung kita'y Kapiling," "Bulung-bulungan," and "Ang Tangi kong Pag-ibig," fully confident that Carmen would breathe fresh life into these musical gems. It is also worthy to note that of the twelve selections in the album, five include the works of the late Manuel P. Villar Sr. "the Father of Philippine Recording," and one of the Philippine's best lyricist. It would take thousands of words to describe the care, attention, and love poured into this album. Perhaps, it would be best to let the album speak for itself. So, here now is "Malayo man Malapit din," a sparkling tribute to our outstanding Pilipino music writers by the Philippines' top songbird, Carmen Soriano.
