With a passion for the GREAT state of Louisiana second to none, Kaplan's own Cedric Benoit takes you on a journey to the bayous and swamps of Cajun country, the dancehalls and fais do do's of rural communities as well as the festivities of Mardi Gras held throughout Louisiana ! To know Cedric Benoit's heart, soul, body and mind just take a visit through his musical body of work. There you will find a man proud of his home town of Kaplan and it's surrounding area. His mother Mildred was born a few miles south in Cow Island and his father Lawrence was born and raised in Klondike between Gueydan and Lake Arthur. This my friends is hardcore Cajun country only a half hours drive from the Cajun Capital of Louisiana, Lafayette. A long time listener of Hank Williams Sr. since age four, Cedric's transformation to Cajun music began at age 12 when his parents bought him his first squeezebox from accordion builder Elton Quebedoux. He then indulged heavily into the songs and sounds of Iry Lejeune, Lawrence Walker, Nathan Abshire and Aldus Roger. The 45 rpm record that changed his life forever was 'Cajun Stripper' by Doug Kershaw with Pee Wee Kershaw on accordion. Clifton Chenier's songs 'Josephine Et Pas Mas Femme' and 'I'm A Hog For You Baby' were also food for the soul. As a young teenager Cedric hung around with best friend Cresswood Bertrand and his older brother Darryl who owned an auto repair shop. Lots of local musicians hung out and played music and of course drank lots of beer ! As time went on the love for music has grown each and every day. Cedric's dream as a young musician was to someday get to play music and promote the culture he so loved. Lo and behold after an almost life ending car accident in 1986, Benoit got his wish. The destination was a small tourist town named Branson, Missouri and a theme park built over a cave called Silver Dollar City. 27 years have now gone by and Branson has exploded into a vacation paradise. Silver Dollar City now owns properties all over the country and yes the 'Cajuns' with Cedric Benoit at the helm are still letting the 'Bon Temps Rouler' in the Ozarks. His passion for performance can be seen live on stage or in the studio as he works at what he absolutely loves and adores, HIS MUSIC.
