Her voice has been compared to Roberta Flack, Patti Austin & Sade. Born and raised in NYC, Charisse is no stranger to the music industry. Her mother an accomplished singer/actress exposed Charisse at an early age to music. Playing piano by ear at age 4, Charisse quickly developed a talent & love for composing music. She started singing professionally on jingles at the age of six. A Sesame Street album then followed. She traveled to Ghent Belguim with her mother at age 11, and performed the role of 'Scipio' in Gershwins 'Porgy & Bess', and continued traveling throughout Europe. In her early teens, her songwriting ability was way beyond her years which caught the attention of band leader Larry Peoples, who then asked her to join his band 'Jamilah' which helped boost Keith Sweat and Rainy Davis as solo artist's. After a year of performing in local clubs, the band opened for acts like Teddy Pendergrass and The Whispers at the world famous 'Apollo Theater'. Charisse then went on to persue a solo career, and as a solo artist performed in local clubs including, The Bitter End, Sweetwaters, Harlem Week, and she's been a regular performer at Ashford & Simpson's, Sugar Bar for the past 6 years. Another highlight for Charisse has been being a part of 'A Jazz Nativity' for the last several years. They have performaned at Avery Fisher Hall, The Lambs Theater, and Symphony Space just to name a few. 'It's a wonderful Christmas production done solely in jazz. I was able to meet and hang out with Tito Puente, Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Jimmy Slide, and Dave Valentine among other's. It has been a great experience for me'. Charisse has spent several years as a session singer, and has worked with: Will Downing, Johnny Kemp, Bob Baldwin, Nicki Richards, Melba Moore, Mark Whitfield, The New York Voices, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Deborah Gibson, and is the featured vocalist on Pete Belasco's single 'Deeper'. Charisse now has two CD's under her belt, which has caught the attention of Roberta Flack, Queen Latifah, and Everette Harp, to name a few. 'Music is my first love, and I love what I do, and hopefully I will continue doing what I love, which is to share my music with you'. Musically yours, ~Charisse~.
