Coldjack: Spitfire Angels

Coldjack: Spitfire Angels
Title: Spitfire Angels
Label: CD Baby

Incredible originals and unique covers featuring the perfect blend of smooth jazz, R & B, and pop, spiced with amazing grooves, and peppered with emotional, yet powerful vocals, Coldjack is making waves in the music scene, being played on a myriad of radio stations, including world-wide Global, Wave FM in Canada and the U.S. and various other sundry stations. Fresh and unique, their sound is all their own, however, influences of Level 42, Steely Dan, Kenny Thomas and Boz Scaggs can be detected by the discerning listener. Coldjack is signed to Thunderdome Sounds and produced by Juno-winning and Grammy-nominated Eddie Bullen. Coldjack shares it's original songs-including a previously unreleased song, Free Your Soul, written by Level 42's Mark King and Mike Lindup-and uniquely arranged standards with the world in this newly released album, Spitfire Angels. It was a highlight for lead singer John Fraser to communicate with his idols during the recording of the song Free Your Soul. Lead singer/song-writer John Fraser is originally from London, England but now calls Ontario, Canada home. John began his working career as a professional soccer player and played for Fulham but soon found himself entrenched in the London music scene. He formed the original Coldjack band in the 90s, first as a bass player. As time continued, he started singing and writing for the band and his group performed in such venues as London's Mean Fiddler and The Rock Garden. The band worked with Gary Newman in his studio, recording two original songs. John moved to Canada and, after settling into a new country, formed a new Coldjack band. Quickly entering the festival and theater circuit, the band gained recognition, winning a New Music Award in 2010 in the jazz category. Strongly influenced by musicians such as Level 42, Jamiroquai and Kenny Thomas, John's distinctive voice and hummable melodies are sure to please. Marcus Davis, the bass player, also from the U.K. is of West Indian parentage. He is an experienced and prolific musician beginning his foray into music by studying at the Cardiff College of Music & Drama and playing with a pop/rock band called Monovision. Marcus relocated to Canada where he studied musical engineering and production. Later, moving to the U.S. he played with such bands as The Bobby Coates Trio and Manifest Destiny. His musical influences are George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, The Commodores, and Larry Graham. Marcus's musical talents extend beyond just playing bass-to playing keys, synths and writing. Currently, Marcus is sponsored and endorsed by Spector Guitars. The name of the band, "Coldjack" is a mythical, mysterious man who is seeking the perfect genre of music. He is a time traveller, tortured, as he listens to the various music of the ages, trying to find perfection. Seeking perfection, it is his hope that one day he can rest, finding true love and the ultimate musical experience. Although a gift of the imagination, the name has special significance to the band members and their fans.
