Description

Title: Night Hawk (With Eddie Lockjaw Davis)
Label: Fantasy
Product Type: VINYL LP

Limited vinyl LP repressing of this classic jazz title. In this collaboration with Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins encounters one of his most illustrious protégés. With a perfect rhythm section headed by pianist Tommy Flanagan, the two tenor men prove that when great artists meet on the common ground of the jazz tradition, there is never a generation gap. Hawkins, nicknamed Hawk and sometimes "Bean", was one of the first prominent jazz musicians on his instrument, as Joachim E. Berendt explained: "there were some tenor players before him, but the instrument was not an acknowledged jazz horn". While Hawkins is strongly associated with the swing music and big band era, he had a role in the development of bebop in the 1940s.
