This is the third full-length release for Fabrizio and Marco D'Arcangelo on the Rephlex label. Since the British new wave invasion of the '80s, these two brothers were keen on embarking onto early experimental music through the aid of affordable samplers and PCs. From their early '90s ventures as members of Automatic Sound Unlimited with DJ Max Durante, to their incarnations as Centuria City, Automia Division and Monomorph, their music has shaped and divided the melodic edges of techno throughout the years. They have made live appearances at the Rephlex Rephresh headquarters, the London Scala, to electronic conventions from Zurich to Chicago. The aim behind Exsel is to gather the quintessence of the D'Arcangelo project over the last 10 years. This is a non-conventional work where melodies and retro-synths are surrounded by frantic rhythms, ecstatic harmonies and classic methodology. Despite a penchant for traditionalism, errata exists on this release, such as "Distant Sound of Nothing More," a tribute to composer Lupi (1908-1971) and his theories on gravitational harmony. Also, "Irko" is an exceptionally experimental and frantic track characterized by a rhythmic crescendo. To sum it up, this is an album reflecting all peculiarities of the D'Arcangelo electronic project for old and new generations of braindancers.
