Dean Wareham offers up an album of Western dream-pop recorded with his friend Cheval Sombre (aka Chris Porpora). Recorded by Jason Quever (Papercuts, Beach House) at Palmetto Recording in L.A. and featuring a backing band rounded out by Britta Phillips (Luna), Anthony LaMarca (War on Drugs) and Will Halsey, the duo take turns on lead vocals singing Western themed songs from old Hollywood movies and songwriters like Marty Robbins, Ricky Nelson, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Magnetic Fields. Dean Wareham founded the bands Galaxie 500 and Luna. One-man-band Cheval Sombre emerged in the 2000s, making recordings in his apartment on the Hudson River. Porpora has previously worked with Dean and Britta, Sonic Boom and members of MGMT.
