The Icelandic flautist Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir has been described by her professors as "a marvelous flautist with a magical sound" and "a warm, energetic, committed and charismatic performer who is destined to be a top rank soloist". Emilía Rós has performed as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Iceland Youth Orchestra, the Trinity College of Music Symphony Orchestra, and with Orquestra Sinfonica Nacional in Brazil and at venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, St. John's Smith Square, the Bozar center for Fine Arts, the Malta Arts Festival, Ung Nordisk Musik (Festival of Young Nordic Musicians) and toured the East Coast of Canada. A devoted performer of chamber music and recitalist, Emilía Rós regularly performs with her duo partner Ástríður Alda Sigurðardóttir, Elektra Ensemble - City of Reykjavík's Chamber Music Group 2009 and various other groups in Iceland. She also plays regularly with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and at the Icelandic Opera. In 2007 Emilía Rós gave numerous recitals in England, generously supported by the Egill Trust, presenting Icelandic flute music which is usually included in her programme. Emilía Rós was born in Iceland in 1982. She is a former student of the Reykjavík College of Music, Trinity College of Music and Royal College of Music, London where she completed her Master of Music degree in 2009. Her teachers include Bernharður Wilkinson, Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir, Wissam Boustany, and Susan Milan. She has also studied with leading artist such as Jeanne Baxtresser, William Bennett, Robert Dick, Paul Edmund-Davies, Sir James Galway, Áshildur Haraldsdóttir, Peter Lloyd, Jaime Martin, Lorna McGhee, and Manuela Wiesler. Emilía Rós has received numerous awards for her performances. In 2004 she received the third prize in the Trinity College of Music soloists' competition and in 2007 she won the Flute Prize at the Royal College of Music as well as the Woodwind Chamber Music Prize with her woodwind quartet, the Goldhawk Quartet. The quartet also took part in the Blair Atholl Showcase of young musicians in Scotland in 2008 by invitation from the Tunnell Trust.
