Description

Title: Reve D'un Enfant
Label: Champs Hill Records
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS

In her debut album with Champs Hill Records, violinist Sophie Rosa chooses works by Cesar Franck, Maurice Ravel, and Eugene Ysaye. She speaks of the works of these composers saying they have "always been incredibly alluring to me. There is something about the sound, world, color, and atmosphere of this music that I find so fascinating. Franck's Violin Sonata, which was composed in 1886, was written as a wedding present for fellow composer Eugene Ysaye, whose work is also featured on this album. He performed the work for his wedding guests the day that it was presented to him. Along with Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 and his Piece en Forme de Habanera, Eugene Ysaye's Reve D'enfant closes out the program. The piece was written during a time when Ysaye was touring and performing and was longing for his young son. Sophie Rosa is one of Great Britain's most exciting violinists. She has performed across the UK and internationally from a very young age. She plays on a 1795 Joseph Gagliano violin made available through the Stradivari Trust.
