The Concert Jazz Orchestra, 24 members, is made up of the finest jazz musicians in the Denver, Colorado area. Miscellaneous percussion and French horns have been added to the more common 18-piece big band. The CD, Gettin' Together, includes 6 standards and 6 originals, all arranged/composed by Franz Roehmann. The music is often marked by twists and turns, such as adding a waltz in the middle of a blues line, using modes and uncommon harmonies, and deconstructing less less frequently heard pop standards -- but always in the context of swinging main stream jazz. Franz is a jazz saxophonist who has performed with various small and large ensembles, including the Neophonic Jazz Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey and Les/Larry Elgart bands as well as backing up such notable artists as Ray Charles, Bob Hope, Mel Torme, Gladys Knight and the Pips, among many others. He recently retired (Professor Emeritus)from a long career in higher education where he taught classical composition and jazz scoring and arranging.
