Genre: Jazz

Between August of 2006 and April of 2007, Hal Brooks recorded with 5 different configurations of musicians, in trio or quartet, collecting the tracks that would become the mainstream albums RELAX and ONWARD! RESPONSE ABILITY is a collection of spontaneous improvisations that took place during those sessions. Very little direction was given; instead, the musicians were invited to recover from the strict atmosphere of studio recording by enjoying complete freedom of expression. The listener hears very clearly the joy of the musicians. Based in Miami, Florida, U.S.A., Hal Brooks is an uncompromising artist and world traveler whose experience includes the concert stage, the recording studio and the silver screen. He has been performing, studying, and teaching music for over twenty-five years, proficient in jazz, classical, African music, Latin music, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, country & western, and contemporary/traditional folk music. He is a graduate of the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, where he studied with Dave Peck, Randy Halberstadt, Peter Mack, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester, Jim Knapp, and Chuck Deardorf, among many others.
