J.Q. Whitcomb's sophomore release as bandleader, 'Tales of Enchantment' is a rollicking jazz adventure through the landscapes of New Mexico and beyond. World class musicianship, powerful arrangements, and unforgettable melodies come together to spark the imagination around themes of homecoming and rediscovering one's roots. Featuring all original compositions for jazz quintet fronted by trumpet and trombone, the album explores a nice variety of rhythmic feels to give it balance, including some odd meters. Most of the compositions on this album were inspired by J.Q.'s return to New Mexico, the land of his birth, after having lived in Shanghai, China for 8 years. The 3 years during which this music was written represents a reconnecting with his roots and family, as well as with the land. Each song tells a unique story. Recorded on 4/19/2014 by David Stoller at The Samurai Hotel in New York City. Mixed and mastered by Jon Gagan at The Electric Company in Santa Fe, NM. Album artwork by Jason Pym. Personnel: J.Q. Whitcomb - trumpet Andy Hunter - trombone Dan Loomis - bass Greg Ruggiero - guitar Donald Edwards - drums.
