JASON CARDER From work on soundtracks for the films There's Something About Mary, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and Bailando por Un Sueno, to performing with a spectrum of artists that includes Yanni, Maria Schneider, and Ray Charles, trumpeter Jason Carder's dynamic personality and nimble talent allow him to move fluidly from recording studios to university classrooms to intimate jazz clubs and to concert stages before audiences of thousands. In addition to principal trumpet performances for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra's TSO Pops! Series and work as a featured soloist with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra under Peter Nero, Carder has performed in a number of artistic premieres. These include solos for the world premieres of Jeff Haskell's Tyspo 1, Tyspomedia, and Woolloomooloo Overserved, performed by the University of Arizona Trumpet Ensemble at the 2008 (Banff, Canada) and 2010 (Sydney, Australia) International Trumpet Guild Conferences. In 2008, he performed in the world premiere of the ballet Nightspot, written by Elvis Costello and Twyla Tharp. He recorded Yanni Voices Live at the Forum at Mundo Imperial in Acapulco in 2009 and continues to record and tour internationally with Yanni as his trumpet soloist. No stranger to such collaborations, Jason has worked with a diverse lineup of artists. In addition to those mentioned above, he has lent his trumpet talents to tours with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson, Paul Anka, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, the Jaco Pastorius (Word of Mouth) Big Band, and the Original Wildcat Jass Band. Jason also has contributed his talent to more than eighty albums, including Sky Blue by Maria Schneider, Nothing by the band N.E.R.D., Arturo Sandoval's Rumba Palace, Americana, and the Grammy Award-winning Hot House. Jason Carder has held teaching positions as visiting assistant professor of jazz trumpet at the University of Miami, instructor at the Mannes School of Music (Prep Division) and adjunct faculty at Florida International University. He holds the BM and MM degrees in studio music and jazz from the University of Miami, and is a doctoral candidate in trumpet performance at the University of Arizona under Edward Reid. Growing up in Arizona, Jason's musical education began under Richard Longfield, Glen Bowling (National Symphony Orchestra), James Benitez (Phoenix Symphony Orchestra), and Stephen Steele (Director of Bands at Illinois State University). His formal education continued at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the University of Miami under the tutelage of Gilbert Johnson and Whit Sidener. He received the Fine Arts Award at Interlochen in 1985, the Maynard Ferguson Award in the McDonald's All-American Jazz Band in 1985, and first-prize honors at the 1988 International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition. Jason has just completed recording his debut CD Coming Home on the New Vintage record label.
