Joan Soriano plays steel string bachata with equal parts romance and grit. He preserves bachata's roots and expands on them; the result is a rare combination of new and authentic. The seventh of 15 children, Joan formed a band with his young brothers and sisters and began to perform at neighborhood events. At age 13 he hitched a ride to Santo Domingo and went on to nurture his talent working with some of the island's greatest bachata stars. Since then, he has played with the biggest names in bachata and mesmerized audiences around the world, but he owes his precocious talent to his exceptionally musical family. This album, a landmark collaboration with his two sisters and brother, captures the intimacy and playfulness of their upbringing in the hills of Monte Plata.
