An ultra rare instrumental surf rock single originally released in 1964 on the New York City indie label Angletone, Johnny & the Volumes' "Volume Express" b/w "Ticker Tape" features surf guitar with an almost mariachi style trumpet accompaniment on side "A" - while side "B" adds rocking saxophone to the mix. Guitarist and songwriter John Ogden later went on to front the Ashtabula, Ohio based garage rock band The Triumphs who released two singles for the New York based Genuine label and were active for a few years in the late 1960s, recording their first single at the famed Chess studios in Chicago. This Johnny & the Volumes single appears to be the only record the band ever put out and is so rare in fact that copies of the original 45 RPM sell for big bucks on collector's sites. The obscure gem is presented here newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.
