Kent Leslie is a freelance hornist and horn teacher residing in Indianapolis. A charter member of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, he is also principal hornist of the Anderson and Lafayette Symphony Orchestras, hornist with Keynote Brass, and performs often with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Louisville Orchestra, and the Chamber Brass Choir of Indianapolis. He has also been the hornist for the national touring orchestras of Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Andy Williams, and Pia Zadora. As a soloist and chamber musician, Kent has focused primarily on music by living composers. In November, 1997, he was soloist with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra in the world premiere of The Glass Bead Game - a concerto composed for him by James Beckel. An earlier recording on the Hard Cor Music label features this concerto in it's chamber version along with other contemporary chamber works for horn. In May 2002, Kent was soloist in the premiere of Chiasmus - a concerto for horn and chamber ensemble by Michelle McQuade Dewhirst - in a concert presented by the University of Chicago Chamber Players. Other commissions and premieres include works by Becky Archibald, Jody Nagel, and Mark Schultz. A native of South Bend, IN, Kent Leslie received his B.M. and M.M. degrees from Ball State University where he studied with Fred Ehnes and Robert Marsh. He performs on a Geyer-model Kortesmaki horn made by Karl Hill in Grand Rapids, MI.
