English rock band from London, United Kingdom, with their self-produced second studio album 'What's THIS For...!'. Killing Joke, known for their jagged, scything guitars, rolling drums, primitive bass and Jaz Coleman's raving, trance-like vocals. They managed playing around with the supposed genre boundaries - the beatbox/synth loop beat of "Follow the Leaders," crossed with the more rough blasts from the core band, suggests it's eventual path in later years, while "Tension" let's the sliding funk heart of the band burst forth even more powerfully. "Unspeakable" is possibly the hidden highlight of the album, heavily flanged, distorted singing sliding down a slowly descending chord pattern that suggests an early glam band gone aggressive and paranoid.
