'Best album of 2006'....Eugene Weekly. Powderkeg is a brave and raucous melding of Punk attitude and Country styling. It is filled with mind melting mandolin and guitar solos, three part harmony's and lyrics that celebrate debauchery. If Johnny Cash were to cold-cock Jello Biafra, the ensuing black eye would be 'The Koozies-Powderkeg. Yes. That age-old question to define one's musical approach is difficult when genres range from that old Country twang to Punk rock in it's purest form. Blistering fast riffs that weave into melodic 3 part harmonies are the backbone to this high energy, foot stomping, whiskey swilling cow punk explosion of an album. Electric Mandolin that has no boundaries or roots in tradition swim around catchy melodies and infectious hooks that have you finding yourself doing the two-step mosh pit while singing along. Powderkeg kicks off with a beer swilling anthem to live by, '3 Beer Buzz.' With lines like, 'You drink too much when you drink half as much as us' is the epitome of the tongue-in-cheek sense of humor that The Koozies write so well. This celebration of vice and debauchery is echoed throughout the album with songs like 'Wasted' and 'Whiskey for lunch' Not afraid to dive into more serious subject matter The Koozies fill out the album with heavier songs like,'Blackstone's Son' and an homage to the wildfire of 1910 aptly entitled,'Deadman's Hollow' Powderkeg has been hailed by Northwest media as a breakthrough album ahead of it's time.
