The Apartheid era and the great folk scare of the 60s coincided. South Africans picked right up on the folk music phenomenon, and many talents sprang up virtually overnight. Due to the international boycott of most things South African, cultural or otherwise, many talents remained unknown to the world at large ... Mel, Mel and Julian were among those. Quickly rising to prominence, Mel, Mel & Julian were well-known as a dynamic and entertaining trio, and were admired for their marathon folk music performances and hilarious comedy interludes. This is their first re-issued CD of purely traditional folk music while their other recordings (of singer-songwriter material) have been out of print. The Rolling Stones' Road Manager Mike Dorsey said: 'This group is one of the most exciting recording groups I have ever heard, and if they were international performers, they should be doing Royal Command Performances, or the Ed Sullivan Show!' They did however, hold their own on the music scene, neck and neck with R&R acts at live venues all over South Africa.
