Few musicians have the ability to transport the listener to a different time by just hitting some strings or directing the air that fills their lungs. The Midnight Cattle Callers do just that. When listening to them you find yourself when AM radio is king, sippin' whiskey if you're fortunate and moonshine if you're desperate. The core-band; comprised of Dee Sutton on guitar and lead vocals, Seth Sutton on upright bass, with Roger Brown on the electric twang-box and Luke Gitchel on the jazz box guitar, banjo and mandolin, rounding out the ensemble; epitomizes the sound that embraces a simpler time. These warm country sounds are a tribute to the hardscrabble towns and the people scattered across the American landscape. '...traditional-sounding, ultra-authentic country that is drenched in swing...' (John Sinkevics - Grand Rapids Press 2011). Since the MCC has come on the scene in late 2009, they have been carving out their own unique style of country music. '[the MCC's] blend of country music makes them one of the most diverse bands to come out of Michigan...' (Elizabeth Waldon-Kool - the Greenville Daily News 2009). It's swingy, much like the 30's/40's big band era that they pull influences from. The vocals are sweet and juicy, yet with the distinct Telecaster growl behind them, it's too twang not to be country. 'Dee Foster's [Sutton] voice indicates that she was born to sing county music' (Paul Riley - Country Music People Magazine). The king of Juke-Joint swing Wayne 'The Train' Hancock said upon being asked about the MCC, 'What a great f**king band they are'! Their songs have the lyrical sensibilities of the wandering cowboy poets of yesterday, songs filled with heartache, pain, unrequited love all with the underlining hope and longing for something better. Foster [Sutton], the songbird for the MCC pens the original material with Sutton who, with help from the rest of the band, compliments her with rich harmonies. '...they've got a good groove to 'em...' (Lucky Tubb - Nephew to Legendary recording artist and Grand Ol' Opry Star, Ernest Tubb). With the release of their first studio album Midnight Cattle Callers, the group scored a home run, winning the G.L.A.M.A. (the Great Lakes Acoustic Music Association) band competition, earning them a coveted slot and rave reviews at the 2011 Cooper's Glen Music Festival, along side Grammy Award winner, Peter Rowen. A few months later, the MCC received a 5 out of 5 star review and was chosen to be May 2011's album of the month from Country Music People Magazine. 'Dee Foster [Sutton] is one of the most important female country singers in the world right now' (Paul Riley - Country Music People Magazine). Riley goes on to say, ' [Midnight Cattle Callers] have created an instant classic'. The MCC's freshman effort also saw 5 nominations from the West Michigan Music Association, including: Female Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year (Ramblin' Cat), Producer of the Year (Sutton), Album of the Year and Best Album by New Group. In the short time that they have been together, the Midnight Cattle Callers' versatility, vast amounts of talents and the right mix of personality have helped them to share stages alongside several great artists. Here are just a few: Peter Rowen, the Steal Drivers, the Tarbox Ramblers, Wayne Hancock, Lucky Tubb & The Modern Day Troubadours, Crooked Still, Whitey Morgan & the 78's, the Lustre Kings, Dutch Henry, the Ragbirds, Steppin' in It, Red Stick Ramblers, DeTemps Antan, the Caravan of Thieves, the Steel Wheels, Tyler Grant, Robert Bowlin and many more...
