BIO: 'an explosion of Bowie-esque guitars and punk posturing... poppy backing vocals puncturing raw thrashing melodies that are part Iggy Pop and part Blondie... if I were producing Top Of The Pops I would be playing bands such as Plastic Heroes to spice up the show, not dragging on the judges from Fame Academy' - Boy George, SUNDAY EXPRESS UK Based in London, England, Plastic Heroes combine the raw power of Iggy Pop in the wreckage of late 70s Berlin with the combustion of 'White Album'-era Beatles and deliver it with unfiltered cool. Escape The Lower End is the sound of New York rocking, London dancing and Paris burning in the Spring. Plastic Heroes are the devastating musical competition that makes other bands quit and take up jobs in banking. Comprising Parisian Marc Olivier (vocals/guitar), Simon Nelson (bass/backing vox) and Racer X (drums), the Plastic Heroes are a shocking cocktail of stylish New Wave Rock with a twist of lurid French Pop. Formed in 2002, the band quickly earned a reputation for compulsive live shows that swaggered with wit, energy and a fistful of hook-drenched songs. On the strength of these shows and their first EP produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes), they were flown to New York by Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls, Hanoi Rocks) to perform a series of jam-packed shows with his band, Madjuana. The shows were such a success that NYC has become the band's second home. Since then the band has also performed on numerous stages across London, from the weirdest to the coolest, building a strong following all across the city. From headlining live performances on the BBC and for Alan McGee, to high-profile tribute shows for Joe Strummer and Elliott Smith, they've done it all. They've toured extensively and supported countless bands such as Bloc Party, The Subways, Art Brut, The Nightwatchman (RATM's Tom Morello), Richard Bacchus (D*Generation) and Silversun Pickups amongst others. While recording basic tracks for Escape The Lower End in LA, the band caught the interest of legendary producer Tony Visconti (Bowie, Iggy Pop, T Rex) who wanted to produce their album. Not surprisingly, the 'business' got in the way. The Heroes just kept moving. Playlisted by tastemakers Rodney Bingenheimer (KROQ) and Indie 103 and performing around town with friends The Willows (Sympathy For The Record Industry) and Zoë Bonham (John Bonham's feted daughter), they were the toast of LA's rock'n'roll jet set, and then London called them back to finish the album. Produced mixed and mastered by Plastic Heroes' songwriter and conceptualist Marc Olivier with Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls) and Sean Magee (Abbey Road Studios), Escape The Lower End is the razor-sharp product of all of this experience and style. From the perfect champagne pop of lead-off track 'Lover Boy' to the head-spinning grooves of 'Fifteen Years', the record is an amazing journey from heartbreak to excess and back to salvation. From the cutting critique of celebrity-obsessed culture of 'Television (Sucks Me In)' to the lush post-James Bond orchestration of 'Fame By Proxy', Plastic Heroes prove that their suit of perfectly crafted pop precision cloaks the heart of a band whose creative vision stretches far beyond their powerful Bowie/Blondie/Iggy roots to encompass appreciation for music as varied as Gainsbourg, Mingus and beyond.
