Son of legendary Brazilian guitarist, Philippe began studying piano at the age of 7 and quickly learned the basics of composition, harmony and improvisation from his Father while going on to study with piano masters Sonia Maria Viera, Luiz Avellar, Antonio Adolfo and Edson Elias. While only 28 years old, Philippe has played with and performed with notables Seu Jorge, Maria Bethania, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Roberto Menescal, MarceloD2, Wagner Tiso, Victor Biglione and Carlos Malta, to name but a few, all of whom have assisted Philippe in becoming one of the young lions on the Brazilian and International jazz and music scene. Powell showcases his incredible talent as not only a gifted pianist, but also a fine composer and arranger. This mature and spirited first recording features some of Brazil's most well respected young musicians, such as Hamilton de Holanda (mandolin) and Diego Figueiredo ( guitar). They help Powell explore the many exciting styles and directions that take him on this Adventurous journey from Rio de Janeiro to his new home in Paris, France.
