When Ray Goren boarded the plane to Chicago to open up the Main Stage of the 2013 Chicago Blues Festival, he was only concerned about one thing - would Jamie Powell be OK! He texted the Generations band manager, "the only thing that matters is these guys". Since Powell had gone into the hospital a week earlier, Ray had maintained urgent and constant text communication. Less than a year after this young boy had formed the Generations Blues Experience, they had become inseparable. The deep spiritual bond between Ray and his much older bandmates was in physical danger. The odds were stacked against this album being recorded. More health issues arose related to other bandmembers. In addition, Lucy's 51, home base for Generations, was to be sold and live music was being discontinued. Lucy's 51, formerly known as The Money Tree, was a landmark live music venue that hosted Sinatra and many other musical icons. Perhaps divine intervention from the 'Music Gods' made it happen. Jamie had a miraculous recovery, Lucy's 51 was not sold and other health issues were resolved. The band was together again at their home base and Live at Lucy's 51 is a powerful testament to the torch of the Blues being passed from generation to generation. The energy comes pounding through and you'll feel you are In The Room and experiencing the best the blues has to offer!
