The music of the Strauss family is justifiably famous, but many other talented composers were producing popular music of comparable quality in the 19th and early 20th c. Drawn from a unique collection of original archive material compiled by The Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain, much of which has been reconstructed or orchestrated by John Georgiadis, this first volume of two presents world première recordings of works by many undeservedly forgotten central European light music composers. Long a first chair orchestral violinist as well as a chamber ensemble founder and member, John Georgiadis' conducting interest and activity began in the mid-1970s. On 31st December 2014 in the Barbican, he celebrated his 39th consecutive year as organizer and conductor of Viennese-style New Year's concerts in London. Throughout his conducting career he has made a specialty of Viennese music and has recorded Strauss family music in particular with top British orchestras, and also worldwide, including for Naxos. He is a longstanding honorary member of The Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain.
