Description

Artist: Seumas Macneill
Title: Highland Bagpipes
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS

Undoubtedly the greatest piping figure of the twentieth century, Seumas MacNeill was also a lecturer in physics who often turned down moves to other cities that would have led to professorships, because he always felt the need to stay in Glasgow and devote a large part of his time to piping. He founded the College of Piping which began in 1944 in a basement in Pitt Street, Glasgow, which quickly grew to be a respected institution and led to summers schools in Canada beginning in the early fifties and soon spread to other parts of North America. He made several recordings on LP and cassette and was editor of the Piping Times from 1948 until 1996 making it the best resource in print for piping information over a span of 50 years. Featured here are vintage recordings of the piping master performing a full set of marches from Reveille to Lights Out, plus other classic selections. 13 tracks, newly re-mastered.

Tracks:
1.1 Reveille (Johnny Cope) / First Meal Pipes (Bundle and Co.)
1.2 Second Meal Pipes (Brose and Butter) / Officers' Mess Pipes (Bannocks of Barley Meal)
1.3 Dress for Parade (Cabor Fiedh) / Staff Parade (Hellen' Laddie) / Fall in (Mackenzie Highlanders)
