The name Morris Stoloff will instantly strike a chord with aficionados of classic American films made between 1940 and 1960 approximately. During that time, Stoloff oversaw the music production for every major film to bear the Columbia Pictures logo, conducting the scores for everything from 'The Jolson Story' to 'Touch Of Evil' and literally scores of others besides. Stoloff's career as a recording artist was incidental to his film work, but when soundtrack albums became popular in the 1950s he really came into his own. This compilation features the Stoloff-helm'ed soundtracks to two of Columbia's most prestigious releases of the mid-1950s. The beautiful Kim Novak starred in both 'Picnic' (with William Holden) and 'Jeanne Eagels' and Jasmine brings you both in this package as "A Picnic With Kim". Both albums offer high quality light orchestral music of a kind typical of the pre-rock 'n' roll era, when a track like Stoloff's pianist George Duning's medley of the jazz standard 'Moonglow' and his theme from 'Picnic' could - and did! - make the UK Top 10. Both also stand alone without any visual content to 'sell' them... As always, remastered from the best possible sources and featuring a comprehensive biography, "A Picnic With Kim" takes you on a musical trip back to a time when the cinema was literally the only place to see a film and the gramophone was the only means of reliving their musical highlights
