The Noted create a sound that mimics the Beatles at times and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at others.  The Noted's brand new album "At This Moment" delivers the type of singer/songwriter soft indie rock that the hipster set craves. At This Moment opens with "More Than Alright."  The track starts musically with the type of old school sound that you would expect from a Beatles record, then the lead vocals kick in and you're transported back to the 21st Century with sophisticated lyrics and smooth production. The album boasts one cover song, "Only Wanna Be With You."  Most bands do their covers exactly like the original recording, not so with The Noted's seasoned musicians.  Somehow the band managed to make Hootie's ode to a lovely lady semi 60s soft rock sounding. The album's title track begins with a Pink Floyd sounding intro then kicks into some very inspirational lyrics that America needs to hear.  The hook asks us to live each moment like it's our last. If this were your last moment, you wouldn't be making a bad decision by listening to The Noted's new album.  If you're a fan of fast songs that make you want to roll the window down, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you're a fan of singer/songwriter music and like to delve deep into lyrics, The Noted has posted "At This Moment" to Spotify for easy access.  You can also find The Noted's album on iTunes. - Jaysen Gold 2. At This Moment has almost 60 minutes of music that reflects this group's plethora of sounds, ranging from lovely acoustic ballads reminiscent of the likes of Jackson Browne or even Paul McCartney. The words and music though, were distinctly Northwest-flavored with a huge dash of Portland's own variety of social conscience. The opening cut, More Than All Right encourages the listener to "overcome the blues" by swaying from side to side, "then start to mouth the words." The tune is upbeat with just a hint of happy bubblegum bounce to help the mellow sing along. The sweet sound of Myriam Gendron's cello shines through on this world ballad that starts slow, then fills the heart. I Am by Work and Jake Oken-Berg, is an amazing testament to the shared feelings of many alienated Americans who feel they count for nothing in the revolving, greedy political process in this country. It has a solemn, deliberate melodic base that intensifies the frustration at the loss of innocence and honesty. You sense the world is so polarized, you feel no one in power gives a damn anymore. The telling final lyrics personify how ready folks are to stand, but that they question, "where is this land of love...I am an American." It is a haunting question as to leaders' agendas and how people can affect a change. If ever there was a love-gone-wrong song filled with deep regrets, it shows up with the tune Rhapsodize. Work's lovely tenor voice carries you to a place you have all been before...the seeking of a second chance with a lost lover. Though this tune starts slowly, the tempo picks up as if in hope the lost love can be regained. This song begs forgiveness... "Relax your fist, reach for my hand...I didn't mean to fall from grace." - Connie Coultan, Positively Entertaining 3. 'The Noted is a band of fine craftsmanship and musicality, and their new CD, 'At This Moment,' is a showcase of their skill. 'The One' takes it's place among the best of love songs, and it's tender lyrics are nicely complemented by music that both understates and emphasizes it's sentiment. How is that possible? You'll just have to listen to find out. 'Take Time,' a (literally) snappy and immediately engaging work, is a welcome revival of the age of very cool instrumentals. 'Only Wanna Be With You' is both fun and musically literate, a nice and very rare combination. The band's sensitivities to broad issues and perspectives are revealed in songs such as 'More Than Alright' and 'At This Moment.' - Lou Marzeles, Editor & Publisher, The Goldendale Sentinel (former Music Editor, The Washington Times) (DC) 4. 'The Noted's album 'At This Moment' is a pleasant surprise. It's full of well crafted songs that could have easily fit on 70's rock radio but still have a contemporary freshness to them.' - Terry Currier: Northwest Music Industry Leader, Owner/Music Millennium & Burnside Distribution 5. 'Great song!!! (Take Time) Nice voicings on the hits. The quality of recording on this is great!!! Very clean. This song gets me moving in my chair. VERY NICE!!! Love the chordal movement.' - Paul Messina - Contemporary Jazz Artist 6. 'Listening to The Noted's debut album, 'At This Moment,' it's clear that this band has a serious passion for music and it's members are experienced, talented musicians. They describe themselves as "comfortably unpredictable, elemental rock," and after hearing the album, I think that's exactly what they are. Their sound is familiar due to their classic influences, but at the same time it is fresh and interesting. Daniel Work (lead vocalist) has a smooth voice that perfectly matches their rock grooves, creating The Noted's signature sound. Lyrically their songs speak to a more mature audience and draw the listener in, finding the perfect balance between thoughtful and lighthearted. In the first week of it's release, the album has been quite successful on iTunes and I think it will continue to be well-received by Portlanders and on a national scale! Congrats to The Noted on a job well done (: ' - One For The Love Of Music Blog/Julia Brotman 7. 'Nice groove!! Great instrumentation!!! I love this. I wasn't expecting the modulation. - Saul Anthony - Contemporary Jazz Artist.
