Winner: 2013 Parents' Choice Gold Award 2013 Family Choice Award 2013 Creative Child CD Of The Year Award Sundance Music & 3 time GRAMMY® award-winner Tom Chapin are proud to announce his newest release: The Incredible Flexible You: A Songbag of Social Clues Tom Chapin's latest family recording, his lucky 13th, is something completely new for this 'pioneer of children's music': a unique collection of 12 original songs to help young listeners navigate the tricky waters of social interaction. Each tune (plus a bonus track) was written to accompany a lesson in The Incredible Flexible You: A Social Thinking® Curriculum For The Preschool and Elementary Years, a groundbreaking book series designed to support social/emotional learning in ALL KIDS ages 4-7 through the use of stories, dramatic play, and music. Chapin has teamed up with a new collaborator, Phil Galdston, the GRAMMY®-nominated songwriter/producer whose work has been performed by a remarkable range of artists on nearly 70 million recordings and in countless films and TV shows. Together they have created a collection of clear, witty and irresistibly catchy pop, folk, rock'n'roll and reggae compositions that teach without preaching. Most of all, they're fun and family friendly! Although specially designed to help promote learning in higher-functioning children with social learning challenges, the music has wide-ranging appeal, perfect for the classroom and for any family with elementary school-age kids. As teachers have known, and more and more research has shown, today's children NEED social learning. In large part because of new technology, so many of our youngsters grow up playing NOT with other kids, face-to-face, but by themselves with electronic screens - iPads, smart phones, computers, etc. "I have long been aware of kids and families dealing with social learning issues." Tom says. "Many kids on the Autism Spectrum and their families have become frequent attendees at my concerts. Phil and I have been on an amazing journey with the authors of the book series, taking their highly-insightful concepts and translating their lessons into songs. And we've used the same guidelines for any family recording: make it delightful, musical, singable, kid-friendly and adult-safe." The CD features some wonderful musicians: Andy Snitzer on saxes, Bernd Shoenhart on guitars, Neal Coomer and Lucy Woodward on background vocals, even the legendary Nile Rodgers lends his disco guitar expertise to one track. Also on hand are Chapin's singing daughters Abigail and Lily, who in recent years have achieved considerable acclaim of their own, recording as The Chapin Sisters. Over the course of his five-decade long career, the multi-talented singer-songwriter-guitarist has covered an incredible amount of creative ground. As a music-maker, Tom has maintained two long and productive parallel careers, both as a highly respected contemporary folk artist and as "the Pied Piper of children's music." In addition to his work as a recording artist and concert performer, Chapin has acted on Broadway, as well as working extensively in television, radio and films. He has become a frequent keynote speaker and workshop leader for the educational and environmental sector. Chapin also works on behalf of a variety of charitable organizations. In addition to his ongoing commitment to WhyHunger, he remains active in a variety of environmental causes and is a strong advocate for music and the arts in our public schools. Chapin says, "I've always loved how family music connects generations - parents and kids listening together, and perhaps starting a dialogue."
