The Scoops for Troops story is the inspiration for this compilation of veteran themed songs. It is an idea that was started by the mothers of two fallen soldiers, who met at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, wanting to do something to mark the anniversary of their sons' deaths. Now in it's seventh year, the event supports and brings awareness for the families of the fallen from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The songwriters, producers, and musicians contributed these songs, donating their time and recording costs to this compilation in memory of all our fallen and in honor of all who served. The title 'Captain Democracy' stems from the cover image of the flag bearer, a member of the Patriot Guard who attended USMC LCpl Daniel Owen's funeral at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Daniel is the son of Scoops for Troops founder Gwen Owen. The Patriot Guard was standing with the flag and swirling snow was getting stuck in his bear. When the photo reached some of Daniel's buddies back in Iraq, they named him Captain Democracy. A fitting moniker and fitting title for this year's collection.
