Digitally remastered two-fer housed in a mini LP sleeve. The musicians on STRETCHING OUT constitute an authentic 'who's who' of Jazz. The album pays homage to music that predates the participating players, and even the newer tunes (like those by Bill Potts and Brookmeyer himself) are well- rooted in the beginnings of Jazz and intend to recreate the New Orleans spirit. However, none of the musicians here are limited to imitating ancient styles. Instead, they create fresh new music on this session, recorded right after the Bebop Era at the end of 1958. Cool Jazz meets swing on this valuable but long out-of-print LP. Valve trombonist in the same vein, KANSAS CITY REVISITED showcases four songs associated with the late-'30s Count Basie Orchestra plus a couple of numbers that are sung by the underrated vocalist Big Miller, who was making his recording debut at the time.
