E total - or how to create freedom in a limited context. On this album, the excellent MegaOctet of Andy Emler (whose awards include Victoires du jazz 2008, 2010 and Django d'Or 2006, 2008, 2010, to name but a few) give a perfect demonstration of truly virtuoso music, firstly by it's soloists (amongst the best instrumentalists on the European scene) and secondly, by it's composition, crafted and erudite yet accessible to every ear. The composer's musical influences are rich and varied, mostly coming from all the different genres of 20th century music, and contribute to a very special, surprising and jubi- latory aesthetic that Andy calls, "a living European music from the beginning of the cen- tury..." E total - the starting point for all the pieces has been the note E, and the result is an art of contrasts and musical pleasure without any modulation.
