Label: CD Baby
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS

Bill Hicks is the founding fiddler of the Red Clay Ramblers and was also a member of the Fuzzy Mountain String Band. Bill appears with the Ramblers on all their recordings of the 1970s. He's done session work with Si Kahn, Eric Bachmann, Jonathan Byrd, David Childers, and Jim Watson. This CD is his first solo effort--a live all-original-song fukes that exploded out of him after twenty years of slinging a trowel and a lifetime of music. Bill and Libby Hicks recorded 'South of Nowhere,' a CD of fiddling, traditional songs, original songs, and blues, for Copper Creek Records last year. They play together frequently on Ocracoke Island, NC, and elsewhere around the country. Bill also plays solo when he has time. This CD features Bill's guitar playing as he's never figured out how to play guitar and fiddle at the same time. His songs are rich and dense and will reward repeated listening. They've been compared to the writing of Chris Kristopherson and John Hartford by reviewers of 'South of Nowhere.' Back in his Rambler days Bill wrote 'Play 'Rocky Top''--a song which has reached legendary status among battle-scarred bluegrass vets as it faded out of print on the Ramblers' live 'Chuckin' the Frizz' album (Flying Fish, 1979). Bill includes a new live rendition here, as well has some hilarious commentary on the road life and the sacrements of the bar from behind a microphone.
