Taking their name from Jean-Luc Godard's French New Wave classic, Breathless are effortlessly cool, fashionably dark, hopelessly melancholic and frustratingly off centre romantics. Glacial atmospherics and layered vocals mixed with interplay of cutting guitar and bass melodies on their 1986 debut full length. The album feels intensely intimate, yet spacious and epic at the same time, and upon release signalled the entrance of a mighty voice on the UK music scene. Often compared to Joy Division, The Cocteau Twins and other artists stretching the post punk dream pop template, with strong arrangements and shifting time signatures Breathless also brought elements of 60s psychedelia to their unique sound. A sound which was lead by one of the greatest vocalists, Dominic Appleton, to ever step foot in the genre. A distinctive and haunting voice that many would swoon over when Appleton would guest several times on the This Mortal Coil project at Ivo's insistence.Deluxe CD reissue of their, packaged in gatefold sleeve, includes additional track 'Stone Harvest' from Breathless' rare EP 'Two Days From Eden'.
