Mort Garson is the ultimate Jack of all trades. He is best known for his pioneering work in electronic music - his albums in the 1960s and 1970s were among the first to feature Moog synthesizers and make up a rich catalogue in which cult classic Plantasia proudly sits. But he has time and time again dabbled in a wider array of sounds, from lounge hits, New Age soundscapes and sonic mysteries of the occult to producing and arranging credits by the likes of Bill Withers and Arthur Prysock. In 1974 Garson provided music for the American neo-noir action and blaxploitation film Black Eye, starring Fred Williamson. The soundtrack to Black Eye shows yet again another fascinating side to Garson's remarkable talent as a composer. Heavily influenced by soul, funk, and jazz, Garson cleverly fuses dynamic brass sections and funky basslines with synthesizers resulting in unconventional sound textures that blend the classic blaxploitation soundtrack tones with electronic elements and experimental sounds.
