Digitally re-mastered edition. The epitome of the New Orleans Jazz sound, George Lewis began his career in 1917 but found success and acclaim in the later decades of his life, commencing in 1942 when he recorded with Bunk Johnson. By the start of the following decade he was touring under his own name, assembling a tight Jazz band around him that would go on to become immensely popular both at home and abroad. It was a tour with Ken Colyer's Jazzmen in 1957 that alerted British audiences to his talents, further cemented two years later when George returned with his own band. This particular album is something of a misnomer, since the only somber track on display is 'Just a Closer Walk with Thee'; everything else is upbeat Jazz in the best New Orleans tradition.

Tracks:
1.1 When the Saints Go Marching in
1.2 Just a Closer Walk with Thee
1.3 Down By the Riverside
1.4 Burgundy Street Blues
1.5 Ice Cream
1.6 Panama
1.7 Doctor Jazz
1.8 Lou-Easy-An-I-A
