Recognized the world over for her unique five octave vocal range and extraordinary versatility, singer Jean Carne came up through the jazz world in the early 1970s as a vocalist in jazz pianist Doug Carn's (her then husband) band. Jean's work with the band garnered her a following with new jazz fans and caught the attention of soon to be mega group Earth Wind and Fire, who enlisted Jean to sing on their first two albums. In 1976, Carne was signed to Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff's Philadelphia International Records - an association that brought Jean wider recognition and much success. Carne moved to Motown in 1982 for a brief stint and continued to tour worldwide, thanks to her devoted fan base. In 1986, she signed to Omni Records with the album "Closer Than Close," produced by jazz saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. The title track went to number 1 R&B, which further cemented Carne's formidable status. Over the years, Carne has worked with some of the most important soul and jazz artists, producers and songwriters including Dizzy Gillespie, Norman Connors, The Temptations, Glenn Jones and Phyllis Hyman, to name a few. Her creativity and talent have never waned, consistently putting out quality albums over the past 40 years - her distinctive voice still in top form. For the last several years Jean has been working with the iconic Philly soul producer Butch Ingram on a variety of projects, releasing critically acclaimed singles as well as full length albums. "The Jazzy Soulful Sounds of Jean Carne & Friends" compiles some of the best moments from her sessions with Ingram and features collaborations with guest vocalists The Legendary Bluenotes, Glenn Leonard, Carla Benson, Sharon Ingram, Johnny Ingram, the vocal group "TRU" and saxophonist Don (Juan) Ward. Through it all, Jean Carne's exceptional voice is front and center, a standard of excellence very few singers can hope to attain. With the legendary Ingram Brothers band and Society Hill Orchestra providing superb backing throughout, Jean Carne's star still shines as bright as ever. .
