Songwriter Jesse Malin, who has worked with Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams or Gogol Bordello, logs after five years with his new album "New York Before The War" back. The album moves through dark meditations ("She's So Dangerous" and "Bar Life" feat. Craig Finn) on upbeat rock songs such as "Freeway" feat. Wayne Kramer (MC5) and "Turn Up the Main River" (with Alejandro Escovedo / backing vocals). By the time you hear that great guitar parts Peter Buck of REM has contributed in the play 'I Would Do It For You', do you know how good this album really is! The album sessions took place in rural Virginia to taken from the 40 songs in NY Soho to finalize a concept album. It was the guitarist Derek Cruz, bassist Catherine Popper (Jack White, Ryan Adams), drummer Randy Schrager (Scissor Sisters) and Paul Garisto (Psychedelic Furs). Don Dilego produced the early sessions in Virginia, Malin and Cruz gave the songs the finishing touches in New York. Brian Thorn, who was involved in David Bowie's "The Next Day" has mixed the album.
