UK reissue. Something of a child protégé, Judy studied classical piano with Antonio Brico, making her public debut at the age of 13 performing Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos. However, exposure to the Folk music of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger would prove more influential and by the age of 16 Judy had switched instruments to the guitar. Her progress was rapid, leading to appearances in Greenwich Village and a recording contract with Elektra Records in 1961. GOLDEN APPLES OF THE SUN was her second album, released a year later (Judy was still only 23 years of age) and features her with Walter Raim on second guitar and banjo and Bill Lee on bass. The material is almost entirely traditional Folk songs, a style she was to pursue for the first five or so years of her professional career.
