Snapshots in time - Journey with us through time as we turn back the pages of the Kapena Scrapbook. Our trip begins 15 years ago in Waikiki with 3 aspiring boys and 'a dream'. Influenced by the emerging trend towards contemporary Hawaiian Music, they created their own style fusing Country, Reggae, and Polynesia Music. The result was a breakthrough sound that captivated audiences throughout the islands. Their unique style created music magic that would take them far beyond Hawaii's boundaries. Snapshot: A budding Kapena promises 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' at the Waikiki Shell as the music propels people to their feet to ride on the 'Reggae Train'. As their reputation grew, Kapena's journey took them to many parts of the West Coast, including San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Long Beach, and Utah. Snapshot: Nostalgic audiences in Washington are captured and transported back home by Kelly's hauntingly beautiful falsetto in 'Love Song of Kalua'. True to their cultural roots, Kapena's repertoire reflected a rhythmic blend with strong Polynesian flavors. Their trek throughout the Pacific electrified audiences in Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti, Guam, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Johnston Island, Yap, Majuro, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Palau. Snapshot: Kapena rouses the audience with 'Pure Energy' in Guam as 'Masese' pulsates through the crowd. They continue to transcend ethnic and language barriers with their captivating music as they did on their Japan tour. Snapshot: A tender duet of the classic 'Ke Kali Nei Au' draw a rave response and standing ovation from cheering Japanese fans. Kapena's journey is a continuing one. Their music evolves as they strive to be Ambassadors of Aloha, whether touching people's hearts here, at home or abroad. New venues loom on the horizon, assuring future musical frontiers.
